Deer hunting is a great sport. There are many tips that can help you be a more successful hunter. One thing to remember is that deer have a very keen sense of sight, smell, and hearing.
You must find the right camouflage to blend in with your surroundings. Deer can see and hear you move so it is important to stay as still as possible when hunting. Deer can also smell the slightest scent that is not natural to the woods and their everyday surroundings.
When the deer smell these scents they become alert and run. That’s why it is important to make sure that you have eliminated all of these unnatural scents. You can rid your clothing of unwanted scents by washing your hunting clothing in scent eliminating detergent.
Washing your hair and body in scent eliminating soaps is also important. Don’t use any product that has the slightest scent. Before entering the woods, it is also important to apply a cover scent or use a scent eliminating spray. It is impossible to eliminate all unwanted scents so when entering your hunting area you should try to enter from downwind.
Another great tip for hunting deer is to scout your hunting area for the best stand location. Look for heavily traveled deer trails that have scraps and rubs nearby. A scrape is a mark on the ground where deer make a circle in the ground to mark their territory or attract does that are in heat. A rub is also a marking of territory. Rubs are found on small trees.
The bark on the trees will be rubbed off by the deer’s antlers. Feeding areas are also great spots to place a tree stand. Some good feeding areas for deer are white oak trees that produce acorns, late bean fields etc.
