How did Geocaching start?

Published Date: 29 Dec 2009

The opportunity for geocaching started on May 2, 2000, at midnight EST, when the "great blue switch" which controlled "selective availability" was pressed. 24 satellites surrounding the planet Earth prepared the recent orders, so instantaneously the accuracy of GPS products increased by 10. 10's of thousands of GPS units all-around the globe received an immediate upgrade.

The announcement 24 hours prior came as a welcome surprise to anybody whom worked along with GPS products. The govt had projected to get rid of selective availability but had until 2006 to do so.

The Whitehouse then said anyone could now "precisely pinpoint their location or the location of items (such as game) left behind for later recovery." And that was a true statement.

So it was, the birth of Geocaching :)

what I want to know is "what will happen to geocaches after we're gone", you know, tupperware and those little roach bugs
(can't say the first part of roach because as a word it was rejected because it was a "banned word" If I posted something about the sport of badminton, does that apply to a shuttleco#k too?)

Well I suppose they will just stay there. I guess I don't understand what your worry is?
